I love to see what other artist are up to with their work. So many are incredibly good at what they do, and they seem to specialize in a certain lane. I don't mean Oils vs sculpture, or watercolors vs pastels. I don't mean choosing impressionism, realism or abstract art. I mean really honing in on what they love to represent in their chosen medium. I see various artist who are truly amazing at portraits, landscapes, florals or cityscapes. Others who excel in the depiction of animals, dramatic skies, still life or architecture.

Personally, I know that I love the look and feel of watercolors. I love to represent my subject matter with some realism. I love to play with light and color. But that's where my specific lane seems to diverge. I like too many subjects and I wonder if that's a good thing or a bad one. Not everyone can draw, paint or sculpt one particular subject over and over again. I choose to paint subjects that inspire me. I seem to find inspiration everywhere, and I believe it helps me to grow as an artist.

Practice makes perfect, and improving your skill requires practice, reflection, occasional failures and getting up to try again just like any other discipline. I find the more I paint, the more I am beginning to find what I love most and get the greatest satisfaction from. But I'm not there yet. I'm still experimenting with varying subjects. I'm still experimenting with varying techniques. I'm still pushing the limits of my skills. I'm still trying to find my groove, or maybe my groove will find me...eventually.
